About

My Story

Karen Denison Clark is more than just a blog; it's a movement towards a world free of sexual abuse. With a focus on fostering discussions and sharing ideas, we aim to empower individuals to work towards a future without fear.

Karen Denison Clark

Born in Washington D.C., Karen Denison grew up as a prominent local tennis star before joining the national junior circuit at age 14. Known for her wicked forehand and unmatched tenacity, at age 15 she was noticed at a tennis camp by New Zealand coach Lew Gerrard, a former 11th ranked player in the world. He offered to coach her and quickly took her game to the next level, earning a top 20 national ranking and setting her on the path to play professionally. However at age 16, he sexually assaulted her, altering her life forever. Although she was the first full scholarship tennis player at the University of Maryland, her tennis career and plans to play professionally were over.

Years later and a relocation to Denver, Karen joined the coaching staff at the University of Denver, a way for her to give back to the sport she adores. She coached and mentored many women over her 16 year career there and was recognized as a member of the University of Denver Tennis Hall of Fame in 2016. She was also named ITA Mountain Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2020-21.

A mother of three and grandmother of three, she authored an op-ed article in The Denver Post and her story has been shared twice in The New York Times. She continues to advocate for the safeguarding of women through speaking, writing, podcasts, and lobbying for systemic and legislative change.
